define both the King's left ear and the outline
of the Admiral's white cap. |

BUT this particular example shows a shortened
version of the "whisker", first identified by
Arnold Berman,
likening this variety to Sgt. "Bilco's"

15, show a break in the 6th shading line of the
King's left shoulder (to the right as viewed).
In the illustration above the Head vignette is
not central to the stamp, but shifted to the
left. In order to hide this defect the printers
would often use a hand applied wash of colour in
the unprinted area making each identified
example unique and worth a premium. |
