The King's left ear is neither shaded nor outlined. The lines of the background shading define both the King's left ear and the outline of the Admiral's white cap.							catalogue value, ie £100-£150
The illustration above shows position 34 on the sheet, the "Waxed Moustache" variety. The feature can be identified as a single extra whisker leaving the left side of The King's mouth as an almost horizontal line.

The King's left ear is now shaded but not outlined. The lines of the background shading define both the King's left ear and the Admiral's white cap.
The illustration above again shows position 34 on the sheet, the "Waxed Moustache" variety. The position setting feature can be identified as a single extra whisker leaving the left side of The King's mouth as an almost horizontal line, BUT this particular example shows a shortened version of the "whisker", first identified by Arnold Berman,  likening this variety to Sgt. "Bilco's" moustache.

All values 3/- and above, both Perf 14 & Perf 15, show a break in the 6th shading line of the King's left shoulder (to the right as viewed). In the illustration above the Head vignette is not central to the stamp, but shifted to the left. In order to hide this defect the printers would often use a hand applied wash of colour in the unprinted area making each identified example unique and worth a premium.
